2006 E320 CDI
Black Puff of Smoke

Hi all. I do not know if I am babying my car or not. I had my 2006 e320cdi for about two months now. About once a month when I get on the interstate at one exit, I pretty much punch it (not all the way to the floor) and I will see a big puff of black smoke. Mostly my wife uses the car for around town errands. I know that with my gas vehicle that it is just carbon blowing off. Is it the same with the diesel? Anything to worry about? The car just hit 50k. Every other tank I put in 8oz of Power Service Diesel Kleen. On a 150 mile ride down the interstate, the computer hit 38.1 mpg but leveled off to 37.9. Gotta love these diesels!
Thanks everyone,
Mike....

Its a diesel. I'd be concerned if it DIDN'T smoke when you mash the throttle.

Yes, it's normal for your 2006.

Not for 2007 and on, as those have diesel particulate filters.

Thanks 240D 3.OT and Kent for your replies. My last diesel was a 1980 Cadillac (smoked all the time!), so I was just wondering.

I would think it a rare--but good--person to come back to diesels after a GM diesel experience!
