C320CDI

I have a 2008 320CDI and have read that putting in a chip increases the performance and improves the economy.
Does anyone have any data on this?

The power and torque seem adequate, but, the "Chippers" claim a substantial increase.

Is it safe to do this?

Its never "safe" to modify an engine. If you have an engine problem, the dealer can deny your warranty just for the chip as a contributing cause even if it wasn't directly responsible.

Yes, power and fuel economy will improve because aftermarket tuners aren't concerned with meeting strict emissions standards and long-term engine endurance.

DIESEL CHIPS

It looks as though you have gone for a much more complicated way. Is this because there are no suitable chips for your vehicle, or, you think that your type of mods are more beneficial?

At the moment I only have 12,000km (7,500 miles) on the clock and just under 2 years warranty left. I would wait until the warranty expired before doing anything.

However, the power gains, PLUS, the economy gains - for the price - sure make it tempting.

Its because there is no "chip" to put on my engine and its about 1/4 century out of warranty.

Can't comment too much on your reply.

I hope you have plenty of time and enthusiasm to keep improving. It must be a nice feeling when it all comes together though!
