on again off again instrument panel, ignition 300sd
Dead instrument panel
HELP Lately I have been having this nasty problem where the instrument lights do not go on when I turn on the ignition and the starter motor does not engage. There is nothing and the clock will have stopped also. I will leave it for a few minutes and voila everything is normal, OR, nothing works again but within 5 or 6 seconds there is a relay chatter behind the climate control unit, the lights come on and were good to go. Closing the hood also will get the lights on. Any ideas?

81 300sd, 83 300dT, F350, 250 diesel & 16 ft car trailer
your battery terminal maynot be able to carry the full load, cause transient brown out.
At least is diesel, if it were gas eng your car could die on the road too.
VW & Ford diesels require voltage to power the solenoid so no 12v no go.
