Your Favorite Diesel Engine

Hello,

The title speaks for itself. With all the transportation buffs around here, somebody has to have a diesel engine type/model they love. Mines is my screen name of course followed closely by the 8V92, 8V71,the Series 50, the Series 60, Cummins L-10 and the Cummins M-11.

A 1994 Peugeot 405 SRDT 1.9 litre 4 cyl turbo charged diesel engine.

The only electronic equipment is the fuel shut off v/v making the engine less prone to faults.

It has now done 300,000 km & the only major problem is that the fuel p/p seals required renewing , costing A$1500.

The cars average fuel consumption is 47 mpg ( Imperial) Kerb weight 1130 KG

Any of the Detroit 53, 71 or 92 series.
The series 60 is okay but the series 50, especially in a bus, will vibrate everyone's teeth out.

The M11/ISM is a good engine and the type I've seen most frequently in my work.

The ISX was a really good engine until they choked it with the EGR venturi pipe. I still don't understand how a 14L engine can breathe through a 2" tube. That would be like asking my engine to breathe through a 1/2" pipe!

They're getting better all the time.

The OM642 is fabulous and I suspect whatever's in BMW X5s isn't bad either.

I have to agree with what was said before about the series 50 and the series 60. The series 50 is pretty awesome
