Firsthand issues with new V6 bluetec motor?
#27
Bought a 2005 e320 cdi this summer - with 70k miles. I have replaced all glowplugs as 1st and only fix (two went out - after 2nd went, just had em all done).
Can anyone tell me if 2005 is the last year of all cast iron engine block or is it 2006 (for CDI's). Thanks!

74K on mine, and I have had a few CEL and limp modes, but they appear to be caused by the tuning box I'm using and generally quit if I turn it down.

MB GL 320 Bluetec
I have a 2009 MB GL Bluetec with less than 50,000 miles and had 100% engine failure. The timing chain broke, the timing chain sprocket splintered into 5 pieces, the cam shafts on 3 cylinders are broken and the rods are bent. MB has told me that it will cost $18,300 to buy a new engine to fix this car. MB has refused to help at all because it's out of warranty. Instead they'd like to 'get me into a new car'. Anybody else have a problem like this?

There has to be a reason a timing chain breaks after only 50,000 miles. Have they given you any indication why?
I think it is time to speak with MB USA & use a lawyer if they need a touch up .

The dealer has opened up the engine and done a thorough diagnostic, but can't find the root cause of the problem. You mention the possibility of legal action. Has anyone else had any luck with taking legal action in a situation where the engine simply fails?

At 50K and well within the 4 years of the original warranty, I am very surprised, based on my own personal dealing with MB, that they have offered no assistance. Were all of the services performed? Is there some reason they have given you for not assisting? Seems very odd to me. I would go to a different dealer.

Thanks for your response. The car is out of warranty for just over a year. However it was very well maintained. First at Beverly Hills Mercedes and later at an independent master certified Mercedes mechanic in Phoenix. The car's been well taken care of.

2013 ML BLUETEC JULY 31
There has been quite a bit of speculation here about the possible unreliability of the V6 vs the I6. Has anyone here actually experienced FIRSTHAND any issues with their V6?
The motor is now four years old in the states and six years over in Europe so some issues should be coming up already.
I'm trying to make the decision between a 2007 E320 Bluetec vs the 2006 E320 CDI and have only found speculation about the issues of cast iron sleeves within the aluminum block.

Sprinter 2500, Subaru
I own 08 Sprinter 3.0CDI bought it with 145000 miles now a few months later 167000 miles. Just before I picked it up It went in to limp mode and the owner had to replace the intake manifolds ($3000), I dodged that bulett.
Those EKAS/swirl valves/secondary intake runners/butterflies like to sieze up thanks to the EGR valve and oil breather. More often when prolonged idling or slow speeds. There are a few options to go around it....
The Glow plug module rarely last over 100k.
Other then that this engine is going over the expediting beating like a butter with a proper maintenance. My MPG improved from 19,5 to 22mpg after I tuned/remapped it and that's with all the emission devices still enabled!

The diesel engine in my 2010 ML350 Bluetec (with AdBlue) died this year @ 82K miles after routine dealer maintenance and virtually no assistance from MBUSA. It's been a troubling experience. If interested, you may see details about my MB experience thus far in my thread here: https://mbworld.org/forums/diesel-fo...ne-seized.html
I'm optimistic I'll reach a resolution with MBUSA somehow and sometime this year (in 2015).

2008 Bluetec E320
Thinking of buying an 07/08 bluetec
Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum but not to Diesel engines.
I currently have an 05 TDI Passat that just turned 270k miles and runs like a top.
It's had it share of issues and a good thing I do most of my own tooling including converting it to 5 speed after tranny blew at 234k.
The missus is in the market for a car and I do like the Mercdes and of course the diesel fuel economy.
So I'm just wonder if these occasional stories of engine failure are from wrong oil usage or Monday morning builds.
From searching ads I have come across on more than couple occasions something to effect " engine recently replaced by Dealer"
Here's one currently running from Detroit. For sale Mercedes E320, V6 3.0L turbo diesel engine, Bluetec. The odometer on car is 90000 mile but the engine was recently replace and with new engine car has just 47000 miles. It has very good tire trade and it is fully loaded. For all additional info call "five-eight-six-524-0500" or send an replay on the add.
Any other closet engine failures out there or is this an issue to be concerned with?
Chris

Sorry to dig up an old thread, long time reader short time caller!
I have a 2009 GL 320 Bluetec and i've babied it! all the maintenance was done by the dealership. I just hit 88000 Kilometres (50K Miles) and my car died as I was driving to work. Had it towed to the Mercedes dealer and they replaced the battery. When it was restarted it was immedialtly apparent that something else was wrong and the engine sounded like a unbalanced washing machine. Anyways so the techs at the dealership opened an ticket on Mercedes Tips and after finding metal shavings have informed me that they need to pull the engine for further investigation. I am (1) month out of my extended warranty. anyone have any dealings with MBUSA / CANADA on stuff like this?
Cheers,
