Diesel_Benz_85

My '85 300 SD TD has a bunch of holes in the exhaust pipe. Most of them are where it splits off to the resonators and then comes back again. Is there a benefit or a problem if I just remove the resonators and put a straight pipe instead? If I remove the resonators, will I get a little more horsepower?
