Noisy Tappet when cold ?

When I start my 94 C250 non turbo 5 cylinder , 267,000 kms, there is a clicking noise coming from near the front of the head when the engine is cold . It disappears after 5 mins once the engine is warm . Is this likely to be a noisy tappet ?. Do these engines have self adjusting tappets . Do tappets tend to stick when cold on these Mercs ? . If its not a tappet what else could it be ? Should I go in for a look ? . But then again if it ain't bust ,... ? . Comments welcome .
