Fuel filler too small
Her in MD they are all starting to use the quick fill large fuel nozzles at the pumps. They are great for filling up my truck, but the nozzles won't fit in my 07 E320 Bluetec. Has anyone modified the filler or found a product to fit in the tube? I'm looking at removing the tab for the back flow preventer. Only one station in my neighborhood left with a small nozzle. Thanks.

If all else fails I would find a good quality plastic funnel with a bend to keep it upright .
It would be a pain in the a@#$# to keep it clean & stow ect .
You will just have to educate Americans in the benifits of diesel powered light vehicles so there are more pumps.Every service station here in Aus have the diesel small nozzle together with LPG gas outlets.

Usually most stations have one larger nozzle for trucks and one smaller for cars. Check around, they're sometimes spaced far apart .

A few times (all in the Midwest,as it happens) I've run across such a pump.I owned my BMW diesel at the time and it came equipped with a special plastic thingy that allowed the use of such pumps.I saved it when I traded and someday I'm gonna modify it so that it fits my Bluetec...I think a short plastic extension should do the trick.Perhaps you'd look into buying the BMW piece (don't have the part #) and modifying it like I want to.And BTW...I'd bet that these "truck" pumps are usually located on,or near, major highways/Interstates.Find a station selling diesel that's *not* near such a road and they'd probably have the "car" pumps.

Depending on the size of your garage /shed you could look around & install a 500 gallon overhead fuel tank & have the local fuel depot deliver your fuel to your home. You may even get it at bulk rate & cheaper.

No I was not joking. But we are less regulated here & I do live in the country. Most farms & some small holdings have their own fuel storage. Not much different to having a large LPG gas cylinder attached to a house for cooking or an oil storage tank in the basement for home heating.

I wish it were just around highways. Here in MD mega gas stations like Royal Farms have gone to it and most are following suit. No car only diesel pumps. I know MB had a plastic part like the BMW listed above but can't find it anywhere. I keep a Tuperware container in the trunk for my diesel supplement, so adding a funnel like piece wouldn't be an issue. Keeping a large fuel container at home isn't possible.

New Info
Just for laughs I decided to try out the BMW fuel filler adapter I mentioned above while filling my Bluetec.Being a BMW part and having put it into the filler neck I assumed that it didn't fit properly and, therefore, was useless to me.But alas it seems to have worked.I tried it for about 1/2 gallon because I was afraid of pushing my luck but it seemed to go well....no spills, overflows or anything like that.
IMO it might be wise for those of us who own MB diesels to have one just in case.As I mentioned I *have* run into a couple of situtions where without that adapter I would have had a problem, having run into a pump like the one the OP spoke of.However,it's possible that different Benz diesels have different filler necks so I can't guarantee success with *all* Benz diesels.
Called a local BMW dealer for a price (I was curious) and it's $7 (plus tax). The BMW part number, for those who are tempted,is 0440157.
And BTW...also out of curiosity (having seen the OP's comment) I called my MB dealer's parts department and was told the MB offers no such adapter.

Nice information on the BMW part. I found myself at a station with only the larger nozzles. The nozzle did indeed fit the opening of my fuel filler pipe (obviously it did not go into the smaller lower hole). As long as I did not open the pump full, I had no issue filling my tank with the larger nozzle. So, I am not sure what the issue is. Am I missing something?

Are you saying that one can fuel our Bluetec using a larger pump nozzle designed for the high volume filling needs of large trucks? It's hard to imagine that being the case...although I've never tried it.You certainly couldn't do that with my "d" without the adapter.I'll have to try it out.

Sorry to bring up and old thread again, but for anyone running into this issue, I bought and have used the VW/Audi "Diesel Fueling Adapter" Part No. 000-072-709. It works great, just be careful filling up super fast. Comes in a nice container with nitrile gloves.
