Back to the OP topic...

Does anyone have a diesel engine that keeps the oil amber?

Has anyone sent black oil out for testing?

If the oil is doing its job, it will not be amber for very long after being in a diesel. The combustion cycle is very different from a gasoline engine. Soot and ash are abundant particulates that result from diesel combustion. The oil suspends these particulates, which darken it. There is ample capacity for suspension and lubricity in modern oils to last much longer than even the longest recommended service intervals. It is not unusual for large diesel truck to go 50-100k miles on an oil change with only the addition of a second filter. The color of the oil is truly nothing to be concerned about. Now...go drive the damn thing and quit worrying.

Agreed ImInPA.

Even if you removed the sump, steamcleaned the crankcase and galleries, there would still be enough black oil to discolour a fresh oil fill within a minute.

PS: I certainly don't recommend you try this!

Points well taken. Thank you for the input.

2nd note. Almost got knocked out by the potent ammonia in the exhaust fumes! Dropped a tissue box after opening the trunk, bent over to pick it up and my nostrils were in frank disagreement!

I trully do miss the black sooty stink of pre-blutec diesels. Infact, there is a portion of concrete in my garage that is discolored from the 300D exhaust soot.
