Be mindful of the fuel nipples on top of the injectors. I bought a special socket to remove my 606 injectors which had cutouts so no part of the socket touched the fuel nipples.
hmm...27mm sounds a bit big....also, the sides of the injector are smooth with the exception of the top, which has two flat sides next to the fuel return nipples....
I have standard fractional inch and metric deep sockets, but it looks like a 20mm is what I need.....
Why the cutout on the specialty socket?
I've seen one such socket on ebay, but I have no way of knowing if that will fit the fuel injectors that are in my car....
Keep it simple and purchase the appropriate tool-----why the cut out-------- read my 051512 post. all is clear!!
I have found the sockets you mentioned on ebay...a vendor called El Paso tool.(see below)..they sell a MB socket, but I have no idea if this is going to fit my particular fuel injectors...there are different models and different years..
I got a tool that fits over the new injectors, but it will not go over the old ones. It seems that there is a lip in the valve cover that will not let the tool go all the way in. I just want to verify, do I have to remover the valve cover in order to replace the injectors?
It is a 1997 E300. I attached pictures of the tool. Also, in the last picture, you can see the lip that does not let the tool all the way in. Is that normal, or do I need a different tool?

I have the same issues. Did you remove the valve cover? My tool is having trouble clearing the nipples on the top of the injectors, too. Is it OK to bend them a little?
