05 E320 CDI idle surge issue
My boss has a 05 E320 CDI that has developed a "surge" or "seat of the pants vibration" at idle. This is more pronounced when you have the A/C system on. The wierd thing is it seems to be intermittant. The car does appear to idle correctly when the climate control system is off. We have tried puttig the car in neutral, then in drive with no changes. You can't feel it once you are moving and are at cruise speed, only when stopped. The A/C system is operating efficently, it's been 100 degrees in NC and it cools the cabin fine.
Any ideas before a trip to the dealership?
Thanks

Could be imbalance in the A/C pump. Bent shaft or similar. It would be intermittant as the AC cycles on/off as you drive.

Can you briefly run the engine with the serpentine belt removed to see whether the vibration stops at idle ?

Carsy,
I appreciate your thought process, but if we need to go through all of that, it will go to the dealer. This would take the a/c out of the picture.
