Assault of new diesels to include BMW 320d
A new diesel with BMW 320d
Not long ago, according to Automobile magazine, BMW axed the 335d, the diesel variant of the top 3 series trim. It was not just pulled from the U.S., where few purchase diesels; it was pulled entirely. The company still makes plenty of oil-burners, but no 3 series diesels are being produced for the United States
The American industry will be getting a diesel vehicle soon from BMW though. The company confirmed that there is a 180-horsepower unit that the 320d gets in Europe that will be available with a 2-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel, according to AutoGuide. It is unknown whether the automobile will come as a wagon or a sedan, but most people do not care; they just want diesels.
BMW promises more diesel
More diesel is coming for sure since BMW is going to sell vehicles with its 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder diesel fairly soon, according to Automobile. Mini, one of the company’s brand names, is trying to choose if it wants to sell diesel in the United States also, according to AutoBlog.
BMW will have some competition soon though, according to MotorTrend, since Chrysler just submitted a patent on the name “EcoDiesel.” That is probably the name of a 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine that will go in the Ram 1500 pickup and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
There are other diesels coming also. There will be a range of Mazda SkyActiv diesels, the diesel Cadillac ATS, the 2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK250 BlueTec, the 2013 Chevy Cruze, the 2013 Porsche Cayenne and a brand new Passat TDI by Volkswagen, according to MSN.
Not all great news
The Volkswagen Jetta TDI, essentially the SE trim with a different motor, costs $4,050, and the base Jetta is $6,130 less than the TDI. It is pretty expensive to get the additional diesel fuel, and sometimes it is not worth it in cost savings. It all depends on what you would like.
1) BMW: Its M550d AWD with 300 bhp and 500 Pound Foot (all numbers approximate).
2) Audi: The bi-turbo V6 diesel engine with 313 bhp and 480 Pound Foot, in the SQ5 and the A6.
3) MB: The upgraded Bluetec (now installed in the 2013 ML GL & S Class) engine in the E350 Bluetec. This engine has 240 bhp and 445 Pound Foot and can make the diesel faster than the gasoline E350. All wheel drive would be nice too.
