C220 CDI (2006) Remap Query

Hi
I currently have a 2006 C220 CDI SE Automatic and have been having some DPF issues. I never travel more than 10 miles in a single run and this has been causing the DPF to clog and give me the warning light on dash (3 times in 4 months!)

I am considering getting the DPF removed and the car remapped to remove the fault codes etc and have been offered a performance remap as part of the deal.

The remap will give a claimed 32BHP and 40 Torque extra, plus the gain from removing the restrictive DPF.

I have heard lots of people have had remaps (or tuning boxes) and love the gains seen but i have also heard that the gearbox may struggle with the extra torque.

Anybody have any real knowledge if the remaps are safe for the C220 box?

All the work will be £520 including a new exhaust pipe to fill where the DPF was, so i dont want to spend this and need to spend a lot more in the near future. Car has 34000 miles

Thanks, Paul

Go for it, if you have 5-speed automatic transmission you will be ok because it can handle 769 ft-lb of torque, but I do not have any info on 7-speed.

Before making any changes I would like to know :-

Is it definitely the DPF that is causing the problem.

If so why the DPF is blocking eg Regeneration not taking place . It should heat up enough over 10 miles ?.

What is the likelyhood of passing MOT or being caught by the pollution authority without the DPF?

If you are concerned about cost why not just have the DPF removed .To use the new power & torque it is going to cost more on fuel & tyres plus more than likely shorten the cars life.

Interested to know the outcome.

John.

Each time i have taken it to the garage with the warning light on, they have plugged it in to diagnostic machine and said the fault code is due to DPF and have had to run a forced regeneration to clear the fault.
I asked the mechanic and he said that short journeys including some stop-start traffic sections will almost certainly be the reason for this.
He also confirmed that the DPF is not required for the MOT and removing should be fine (this is not the mechanic or garage that will be doing the work)
Since the DPF issues started, i have noticed my economy drop by around 9-10 MPG. Used to get approx 39-41 and now very rarely get over 29.

I have had the car fully serviced in line with the book oil, fuel and air filters are all new along with oil change around 2k miles ago.

You have it all in hand. Sounds an excellent idea to remove the DPF but I would obtain a second opinion on the MOT.

You will just have to decide whether you need the power remapping.

I find my 220CDI to have excellent performance & economy & I would not use the extra power even to pull out tree stumps ect !!

Good luck.

My dealer don not care about this things, actually they hate all emission crap like EGR, DPF or Ad Blue. They know that my EGR is been deleted and only thing they say is that they cannot do this to other cars at the dealership, but they can refer people to me if someone is interested.
