C220 diesel problem
Time to time EPC light comes up and the car losing power, running rough, start it again, good again for a while. At startup almost every time the Epc light comes up, unless I keep the throttle pedal down 'til it starts. After a good start I may can go to 100 miles and back without problem but maybe I have to restart 6 times during a trip to downtown. Epc light always comes up when I slow down, never when I accelerating. Already changed the fuel filter, nothing changed. Throttle positioning sensor? vacuum leak?
Any idea?
Thank you!

Although your description is helpfull, we need you to get a scan and get the fault code. Once we have the fault code we will be in a better position to offer suggestions. Good Luck!!

We did try to read the code but our readers can not communicate with the computer. (the car originally from Germany)
Drove it again to work last night, the light coming up at every sudden rpm drop from above 2200 rpm. With careful driving I can avoid the light coming up but the startup still has to happen with full throttle.

You say I won't be able to read this German market car's code with a Canadian market code reader? Even if the reader reads Mercedes codes on Mercedes which was sold in Canada? If it is true I buy one now!
Could somebody confirm that,please!
And one more question: Any idea how could I check the throttle position sensor?
Thank you!

I think that you may be confused, a Canadian market code reader will read the BASIC MB engine codes.
I would not worry about the TPS untill you read all the faults, if any.
If the TPS is faulty you will learn that!! Good Luck

On your car do you plug into the under hood 38 pin connector(round) to do the scan or is there a connector(rectangular) that is under the dash on the drivers side??

No specific reason for asking, except that if the car was originally mfg for europe and then you imported the car to Canada you may be correct in that you will need a scannar that the Europeans use or an indy with a copy of DAS Xentry(MB diagnostic software).
Your car was designed to be diagnosed with the old MB HHT system that is now imbedded into DAS to diagnose the older cars.
Well that's my two loonies worth of advice!

For anyone to help they will need you to scan the car and advise on the fault codes.
If you don't know how to do that------use the search button------loads of information on what to buy and use

Thanks for the advice, just noticed an "alarm" sound coming from what sounds like the ESP unit. I guess i'll have to get Mercedes to have a look... there goes more money...

You are correct the check engine lamp is for emissions related faults.
Regarding the ESP that is not emissions, however the ESP module may send a message to the ECU that there there is an issue and you get what I call a notice fault in the ECU which you can erase, but as soon as you start up you will get another message because the originating module has not been cleared(ESP), but to read the ESP you need MB software or equal. forget about and obd scanner useless in this case!! Good Luck

Scribd.coms fault list does not always represent the actual MB fault codes. Many are generic OBD codes.
You either go to WIS or the codes are explained within a DAS Xentry diagnostic session.
The op ain't using DAS Xentry that's for sure,------and you are correct he will be looking(and confusing posters) for weeks to find a distributor shaft on a near recently produced MB.

If you are serious and yes it will cost some loonies, but you get the issues resolved or continue on.You have to correctly diagnose the car FIRST!!
The resolution is find a garage that has the MB DAS Xentry diagnostic software. They will be able to print you a copy of the quick test, listing all the current/stored faults and events. You can then TRY to repair yourself or purchase the parts and have someone else repair the car.

The codes were check by an independent Mercedes mechanic. I don't know what reader he used or what system in the reader but I was told it is a 10K machine. He printed out all the stored and current codes as I posted previously.
Plutoe, could you translate the current code for me please?
Thank you everybody but still waiting for some ideas.
