Strange pop-off noise
Greetings, and thanks in advance for indulging a newcomer to the forum. I am the owner of a 2012 ML 350 BlueTec.
Absolutely LOVE the car. But it is making a strange intermittent noise.
It is a sequence of three pressure release noises that seem to occur at cruising speed. Not loud. In fact you can barely hear it ... and only if the stereo is not playing at all. It sounds like a pressure release or equilibration of some sort.
Pssshhh, psshhh, psshhh ....
And then it stops.
Not obnoxious, and no overt problem, but I'd love to know what it is. I mentioned it to the service tech on my 5,000 mile tire rotation, and we took it for a spin. But of course could not reproduce it. Isn't that always how it is?
Now I find I can sometimes recreate the noise by rolling over highway lane dots.
Does anyone know what this is?

Hi Carsey ... definitely not. The car has 7600 miles, and made the noise since new. It is intermittent ... not the sort of noise made by irregular wear ... which would be constant. There is also a very slight tugging of the steering wheel that corresponds with the intermittent noise.

Do you have an air suspension? Could you be hearing the A/C cooling system? Not sure what else could make the sound you are descibing.
