Garrett turbo
Garrett does not sell cartridges for the GT23 V turbo, So that it can be rebuilt. This is the turbo on a 2005-06 in the US E320 CDI.
What would happen if I bolted a Ford 6.0 Garrett turbo with Variable nozzle Turbine just like the Mercedes one and hooked the Mercedes Computer up to it. The problems are it is almost twice the size, I would probably need to make a new double heater with 3 cylinders feeding one side of the turbo and 3 Feeding the other side. I could make all of the parts and I could leave the intake system sensors in tact also. I can not reprogram the computer. The other problem is I think the lever that moves the variable part is a different length.
Would it work or would the computer be confused and go into limp mode. Or would it work great and make 350 HP.

Out Of Control!!

Engine ECU's don't go into limp mode. Engine ECU's manage and respond to instructions(programming) therefore for the ECU to recognize and manage something the ECU has to be told what and how.
Although your idea is very fancy full, I would suggest that you do much more reading on the development and programming of automotive control modules. The web has thousands of items on the subject!!

EGR
I blocked off the EGR between the head and the intake and it ran in limp mode. I had to get an EGR emulator to get it to run right. I fear the turbo would do the same thing.

Lever can be made with two ball ends and screw type shaft between thus you can make it longer or shorter.

The shaft is out of spec. The housing is to far gone to be fixed. He does not like to use turbo international parts because they are cheap made in china and do not last and it makes him look bad.
So now what do I do? I found a used one for $1133, and a new one for $2200? I found a used turbo off of a 6.0 powerstoke for $250 and I can build a custom header for it. I am not sure that my actuator will connect to the bigger turbo. But what if it would work!
I will look around for a cheaper used Mercedes turbo I am sure I will not be able to find one. If anyone has one for sale....

pure turbo
I found a shop out in California that had a rebuilt version, I asked a local kid that is good on the internet to find it for me. And he gave me the phone number and name pure turbo. I looked it up online and could not find it! How does that kid do that.
$550 and free shipping there was a core charge and it cost me $50 to get my turbo back from the shop that could not fix it.
I found 3 used turbos $1200, $1130 and $1495! All claimed to have 100k miles.
I am betting that Pure Turbo is buying the parts from Turbo International

Pure Turbo
My core charge was $150. Maybe they had the same problem I had. There are probably very few people that blow them and even fewer that actually fix them outside of the Mercedes dealership. Maybe it has been on the shelf for 3 years and someone decided to place an e-bay ad. They shipped it out Monday morning.

Receive mine turbo today. Overhauled and upgraded to GT2871 compressor wheel. Next step is to start working on ECU tune.
