HELP/ BLUETEC E320 Intercooler R & R after Turbo R & R
2008 E320 Bluetec Diesel w/161K miles. I replaced the Turbo. After starting and checking to see how its running vehicle suddenly goes full throttle for about 5 to 8 seconds. Car then dies. Diesel mech's tell me to remove the Intercooler and run degreaser thru it and to clean it out thoroughly, They say it probably had oil in it that the car was using as fuel. I think the car is OK now but haven't started again. (heartbeat finally normal) I am going to remove intercooler and clean. Does this sound correct or should I check out anything else?

During my training I saw photos of the results of a oil pipe leak in the scavenge ( turbo charge) trunking of a marine diesel engine. The engine over sped & completely disintegrated.
I think the diesel mechanic has given you good advice.
As a safety precaution I would make sure that you could block off the air intake close to the inlet manifold before starting again in case there is more oil present .
