2011 E350 Bluetec

Hi all,
This is my first post here, so a little background.

Just purchased a 2011 E350 Bluetec w/ 66,000 mi. for my wife.
We have both been driving diesel vehicles for years, so we are comfortable with them. This is the first Mercedes though.

I generally do most of my own maintenance so I have been reading everything I could about the vehicle. From what I've read, in order to determine what type engine oil to use depends on whether or not the engine has DPF.

How do I determine if the engine has DPF or not?

Thanks much.
Phillip

not much activity on the diesel boards. Best to also use the w212 board.

You car does have the host of clean diesel devices. including the DPF. You can find a bunch of maintenance info on line from Mercedes itself.

The oil you will need to use is one that is 229.51 or 229.52 approved. Just about all the 229.51's are now 5w30 and the 229.52 is 0w30. I just did my first oil change with the 0w30 and the MPG did improve slightly +/- 1mpg.

The other diesel oils arent recommended due to higher SPAsh content which can clog the DPF.

Here is a link to MB site that shows all approved oils.

I think DPF come on the MB in 2007.
The urea come about 2009.
Be very religious about the oil as we do have some reports about 350 diesels seizure -with indication it happen due to wrong oil use.

You should be able to see if a DPF is there by following the exhaust system from the manifold. There will be a sensor on both its inlet side & outlet which determine differential pressure for regens. I am not sure whether it will be before or after the catalytic converters.
