Oil for 2009 Blutec engine
Hi, I have a 2009 E320 Blutec with 55k miles. I bought it at 20k from a MB dealer in east coast as CPO and drove it to southern CA. I have the following questions and concerns. While not a lot of problems yet I am concerned about what I seem to hear about oil leaks from different places and for different reasons. I found out these engines run very hot over 1500 degreeC, for proper operation and to keep tings toasty, MB put the bottom cover to keep it hot. The problem is at these temperatures the recommended 5W30 oil breaks down due to low viscosity and evaporation , then fuel gets mixed. For mild locations like southern CA this can be detrimental. Thus synthetic 20W50 or even 20W60 is recommended they have both higher viscosity and lower evaporation (around 5% as opposed to 15% on 5W30. This will help with the leakage into oil cooler and air filter chamber. Unfortunately I cannot even check my oil level as there is no dipstick. Another recommendation is to take the so called bottom dust cover (underneath the engine) off to provide more cooling air to the engine. Can someone confirm this observation for me?

I have been using 15w 40 in my gas engines too,for years. My S Class removed belly pan years ago,and went to a 76c thermostat, as most new cars run to hot www.stephensservice.com click bluetec problems
