Leaking Oil Cooler Repair Aftermath
I immediately noticed a 5mm tear in the driver's seat MB Tex material where a screwdriver tip might sit in the back of a mechanic's pocket, the car idled with a higher than normal vibration, and upon starting the preglow indicator lamp remained illuminated for approximately two minutes accompanied by the CHECK ENGINE caution message which stays illuminated. The next day I also discovered an oil covered bolt in our garage stall where the car is parked. I emailed the dealership GM who had their service manager call me and brought the car back for inspection. The service advisor emailed me saying, "The check engine light is indeed the glow plug module. It is a sealed module on the drivers side engine compartment. The other thing is the motor mounts. It's a common failure at the cars age." The dealership is asking us to pay for these two repairs with a 15% discount on the bill.
Any thoughts? Are these symptoms coincidental timing or are they caused by the service to repair the leaking oil cooler o-rings?
Can't speak to the glow plug module but everything here sounds suspicious.
I'd call MB directly on this one. Have a factory rep meet you at the dealer to discuss. With this dealer things could turn into a "black hole" of expenses.

Unfortunately AZ is not much of Mercedes country and I suspect that they don't have many Bluetecs at all, so somebody is learning how to works on those cars and you pay for it.
When GP module, being electronics can go without warning, the shaking that happen after the repair should bring better explanation.
What's the mileage?
The $3800 is like 50% of car value, so that once more proves that MB is not a brand that you want to have dealer-repaired.
Also, if the engine started running rough after their repair, might that have led them to conclude the motor mounts were the problem?
I would definitely call MB corporate and have them send a qualified MB diesel tech rep out to meet you at the dealership and have them explain everything.
Too many coincidences and unexplained problems here.
There are seven MB dealers in Arizon, five in the Phoenix area. Schumacher is one of the biggest in the US. Don’t think lack of Benz knowledge is the issue. With the exception of the tear in the seat, the other issues are legit.
I was suggesting an independent look at the problems encountered to act on behalf of the owner.
Here's my take on what he posted.
He brought the car in for an oil leak. No mention of any others problems in his post.
He left with the following:
1. A tear on his seat
2. A high idle/vibration problem
3.A pre-glow indicator lamp lit
4. A check engine light on
5. A missing oil covered bolt of unknown origin
It's hard to call all of those ligit if they were not there before his visit.

Please, the question was: "are you in anyway affiliated with the dealership in question? Or any of the others?"
