2006 E320 CDI P0030 CEL?

My ’06 E320 CDI is displaying a CEL, P0030.

I’ve owned the car for roughly one year and originally the P0030 CEL would only show up intermittently. I’d clear the code and it wouldn’t come back on for months. Several months ago I decided to replace the O2 sensor in an effort to ‘fix’ the P0030 issue. The installation of the new Bosch O2 sensor seemed to have cured the CEL issue, until recently. Now, the P0030 CEL is on constantly.

I’m thinking that since the O2 is relatively new, the issue must be something else. The car is continues to deliver great MPG (38 mixed city/highway) and no noticeable changes in drivability. Any idea on what the cause might be? ECM?

I’d need more accurate or perhaps higher resolution data than a simple code. My car is straight pipes but I still use the lambda and 214k miles now have never had a code from it. The wiring does run VERY close to some hot parts if routed correctly, the tiniest mistake maybe melting your new Bosch wires?

I'll see what I can do to provide additional information and I'll take a look much more closely regarding the wiring...

I simply didn't have the time to move forward and diagnose this issue myself any further...
Since the car needed an oil change anyway, I had the dealer look into the CEL. They found an issue with my replacement Bosch O2 sensor and replaced it with an OEM sensor. Thus far, no CEL or any additional issues to report. I'm hoping this new sensor will do the trick. My fingers are crossed.

Well, the CEL is back on and the car is back at the dealer. The O2 sensor did not remedy the issue. They are now looking downstream for the issue. I'll report back with what they find and the new potential fix.

Do you have icarsoft or equivalent? Generic lambda sensor codes are usually explained as having something to do with something else, my Audi for example is always “Bank 1 sensor 2 catalyzer efficiency issue”?

I don't, unfortunately and that is my assumption.
I'm trusting that the dealer has the necessary equipment and will be able to diagnose the issue and eventually fix the CEL.

We'll see...they still have the car...

The dealership has found that the ECU is causing the CEL. They have ordered the part and it should arrive and get installed next week. I'm hoping that the new ECU will solve the issue...we'll see.

Sorry I missed this... They took the old ECU as part of an exchange. Though I greatly appreciate the suggestion.

The new ECU did indeed fix the P0030 CEL.
