Yet another oil question....
I was looking on a parts website yesterday for oil (I’m doing the 5000 mile oil change routine) and found one of the recommended oils was pentosin 5w40 oil they said was equivalent to Mercedes Benz 229.51 oil.
Since it regularly gets into the 90’s-100 degrees in the summer in Kentucky I was wondering if this would be acceptable for my 08 E320 OM642 engine. I’ve been using MB 229.52 oil in the last year and I always use the Luquimoly engine oil flush.
What say you all?

I am sticking with 229.52 classification and the only weight I can find is 0-30
Seem to work fine and I frequent 120F.

229.52 is by definition 5W-30 because the spec is for fuel economy.
with today’s synthetics that meet MB specification, the value of the winter number and the value of the high temperature number are essentially meaningless and all will perform just fine in all situations. Engines have thermostats, and in terms of heat, outside temperature is meaningless.

229.51 was the best oil.......until they decided 229.52 was better. Both garbage in my opinion, but those with intact DPF's have no choice but to use low zinc/phosphor oil.

i agree. Which is why I had engine tune w/dpf delete. I now use a liqui moly oil. Their lieghlauf high tech 5w40 which is a 229.5 oil. My oil analysis has never been better and the oil is easily available. 😀

I run Amsoil Competition oil in summer, (super high in zinc/phosphor) 20W50. In fall I run Signature Series in 10W30, and will be doing my next oil change with Signature Series 0W30 this weekend when I get back up to the Great White North. The truck always sleeps indoors and is rarely outside for long, which is why I wasn't panicking.
