Searching new engine for GL350 2012 . OM642

Hey guys I`m going to start the search to replace the engine on my seized GL 2012 and I have a couple question . So far I saw few engine Block from Ebay for a price between 12k to 8k, also check few other places and the price seems consistent that leave me with few other options.
I have seen that the same engine is used in different models of cars. I found a car at copart website with salvage title but is a sedan E350 bluetec, the engine looks like is the same.
Also found out of craigslist a Grand Cherokee with 140k miles for 5k, with all the emission delete . so all this option looks like way better that spend 20k in a full engine

1.- are those engine the same? om642 v6, from the picture looks like the same engines in smaller cars ,
2.- Can an engine like that be installed in my SUV. and use the accessories from my broken engine .
I just want to save some money and get my car running. Im paying close to $415 a month on this car so is frustrating look at it at my driveway getting dust.

OM642 was manufactured for several years, where not only technology changed in the mean time, where newer engines have DEF, but also mounted in different vehicles has different piping, different programs and different options.
Those engines have lot of bad wrap in USA so IMHO putting more than 10 grands in 7 yo vehicle make not much sense.
I would just part the car and get over it.
If you really like it, bite the bullet and get new engine, what will give you warranty.

That would be a very foolish mistake and for one the electronics are totally different---find another real solution!

Keep watching the weather channel for floods, hurricanes etc. with your favorite tow truck on speed dial.

That sound like plan, I`m $20k behind on this car so part it out is not an option.

The other option is to get a long block off 2007-2009 E320, and swap all the parts from your old engine onto the old style OM642 and drive it straight to a dealer from your garage.
I could be wrong here but i believe both OM642 long blocks are the same. They changed/improved a number of things like bigger oil pan, etc...

I was contemplating that option but a long block cost around $8K, that engine is crazy expensive. U need to have a really deep pocket to try to fix it., Luckily rain is coming

I like that spring Texas one. If you get yours towed there they might be able to install it too.

Trust them a bit more considering they pull and refurbish these things.

Buying used is always risky. For 85 k the Jeep engine shows lot of corrosion and lot of gunk.
Meaning if the 85 k is the truth, it was neglected engine.
Is is worth spending time and money to install it?
Flip the coin.
