OM642 Getting Carbon out of the head?
I am starting to put my 2013 E350 Bluetec back together after replacing the oil cooler O-rings. I have cleaned my intakes and was going to leave the heads alone but I had to try to get some of the carbon out of #4. You could not even see the valve. I vacuumed out what I could until I could see the valve and then rotated the engine until the valve was closed. I put some acetone into where the valve is and it was not leaking so I agitated it a little and sucked out the acetone / carbon with my oil extractor. It did work. I can now see the valves. I plan to let it dry and not touch the other valves.
What are the rest of you doing with the carbon in the head? There is a lot of it.
I have 110k miles and the car was running ok just had an oil leak.

Some people reccommended making an adapter for the egr temp port and putting some diesel intake cleaner from lubrimoly in while it's running at temp.
Since that's not available I'm thinking of moving on to bg 245

FYI, I ended up going back and cleaning each valve with sea foam. I pored it into the valve while is was closed and scrub it with a toothbrush then sucked out the sea foam with my oil extractor. It got the large chunks out. I will let you know how it runs once I get everything put back together.
