2013 GL350 X166.824/E642.82 - Mass Air Flow Sensor

Hi All,

I have a 2013 GL350 X166 with a BlueTec diesel engine - roughly 70k miles on the engine. Recently the CEL started coming on, and sometimes going back off again. The codes were related to the left and right hot film mass air flow sensors.

I took the manifold off the car, use MAF cleaner on it, replaced the air filters, and reinstalled.

Now I have intermittent errors coming from B2/6 (Left hot film mass air flow sensor) - both related to implausible values as well as exceeding the upper/lower limits. I had read somewhere about having to re-learn the limits, but i cannot find an option to do that in xentry (which makes me think that perhaps that was for the X164 and eliminated for the X166?)

At this point, I'm just trying to replace the part - but A6420900048 (the part) is no longer made by mercedes. There is a different part - 6420901642-80 that is apparently the remanufactured replacement; but I supposedly have to order it online (and not from the dealer) and they cannot tell me if it actually has the sensor built into it. To complicate matters, when I look online I see another (similar) part 6420901742-80; which appears to also be a fit for my car.

Anyone run into this issue before? Is there something I can do to repair my current MAF? It's crazy that I have to buy an entire manifold and two sensors to replace one bad one (I know, mercedes..)

Additionally, when I start the car I do get a bit of timing chain rattle - it goes away almost immediately (like, within a second or two) and typically happens when the engine is cold. Is that normal, or is it a cause for concern? Should I be preparing myself for a weekend of replacing the timing chain?

Thanks!

as far as the MAF and buying a new intake, the remanufactured ones come with the sensors installed. you can find the sensor housings with sensors separate on ebay from germany, or a complete pirate on aliexpress. ive purchased both and have had problems with the car being compatible with the aftermarket sensors... you could always try yourself if you want, but im just going to purchase the remanufactured intake. I've found em on different dealer places.. like here for example
