2015 GL 350 Maintenance DIY Checklist
Answers to my question(s) have probably been addressed across hundreds of threads, but some are dated and some are hard to follow. Would appreciate some ‘first’ maintenance/first BT advice from the DIY owners.
Purchased a 1-owner 2015 GL 350 w/42K miles. MB dealer who serviced it won’t release the records and the previous owner is out of reach. CARFAX is showing a 10K, 20K and 30K services all done. Not seeing a 40K service done, but there is ‘maintenance’ done around 39K miles. Once again, the servicing dealer is of no help on that either.
At this point I’m assuming the 40K service in its full extent was not done. Here is what I plan on doing and would love for those experienced with this year, model and engine type comment on what else I should consider adding to my checklist:
- 229.52 Benz 5W-30 oil with Mahle filter
- Benz brand fuel filter
- Cabin filters
- Engine air filters
- Liqui Moly Step 1 Additive kit (engine flush, oil additive, diesel purge and diesel additive)
Understand that the transmission and break fluid flushes are part of the 40K service? Is this something you’d recommend at this mileage? What else am I missing as I think about preventative maintenance?
Many thanks in advance!
I have a 2015 GL350 also with 64k miles (I just noticed that their service report says 84k). I've owned the truck for about 6 months and have had the same trouble getting service history. I went to the dealer yesterday. Service AF was due. They changed the
oil, added some washer fluid, changed a "general metal ring" (I assume that's the drain plug washer), and washed the outside for $242.52. Yikes!
They recommended the following:
1. Transmission service $615.58, I think I'll have them do this one
2. Fuel filter $533.59, Wix (I trust the brand) filter on RockAuto is $35-$65 depending on what kind I have. It looks pretty straightforward. Can someone point me to some instructions?
3. Air filter element $246.00, RockAuto lists a set for $55
4. Brake fluid replacement $264.75 I'll do this when the brake pads need replacement. Dealer tech listed them as "fair".
5. Dust filter $64.50, no part number listed, cabin filter?
6. Combination filter $161.00, no part number listed, another cabin filter?
7. Tech noted an engine oil leak, diagnostic $210, I'm going to check this out, I didn't notice anything before, I'm worried about the seals on the oil cooler. RockAuto lists ELRING 524270 as an oil cooler seal for $2.33. Is that it? Are there DIY instructions on replacing these?
8. Alignment $169.95. I tried having a local shop align my 2006 ML500 with the air suspension. They couldn't do it. I'll probably have the dealer do this.
On my 2006 ML500, I used to get really thorough inspections from this dealer, but I'm losing faith. Below is some work that needs to be done that they didn't notice. This isn't the first thing. I have high expectations when I pay $250 for an oil change!
9. I know that one of my air intake duct hoses (part number 642-094-87-97) has a hole. I saw a thread about fixing this with a Spectre Performance 8741 Black 3" Air Duct Hose. However, this was on a GL450 and this hose isn't round on one end. Does anyone have a recommendation?
Thanks in Advance...Jeff
If you're in USA, getting parts from fcp euro would make sense.
I find it odd that the dealer won't share service history information. But if you have star xentry, at least you could see the date and mileage the services indicator was reset.
I would recommend you get magnetic drain plug from https://drainplugmagnets.com/
its not so much for the amount of metalic shavings it'll collect but for the amount of oil sludge it shows at each oil change.
