DEF systems are relatively new, so not that much DIY experience, but I would start with cleaning DEF injector and checking DEF level.

Hey I just got a message this morning saying adblue 10 starts remaining. Also DEF level seems fine as it was just serviced by MB of Chicago two weeks ago. I had a look in the tank and fluid is visible, how would one clean a DEF injector?

You profile says you are in BC, when you had your car serviced in Chicago?
If that is US registered car, it is subject to settlement, so all emission systems will get 4 years warranty, while the owner gets $3600 check for his suffering.

Hey kajtek1 thanks for responding. Im in Chicago now and I was told by the Mercedes dealership here in Chicago that my car is Canadian and the VIN brings up no recalls, he said they will not be working on cars from Canada even though it’s registered here in Illinois now. Im quite confused as to how to get them to cover this.

thanks again

harm9 i just cleaned the DEF injector on my 2011 E350 w212. Hardest part was getting under the car. On my vehicle i jacked it up removed the cover under the car. there is a vband clamp, a hose and an electrical connector that have to be removed to get the injector out.
remove electric connector
remove def hose, its a wire retainer type. easy to remove
unscrew bolt in v band clamp .Its the etorx style, you will need to get the correct socket.
once the v band is loose, the nozzle will come off. it may be stuck if there is def residue.
cleaned mine with clean hot water . filled a clean plastic water bottle with hot water, drilled a 1/16" hole in cap and squeeze bottle to squirt hot water on residue.
Check hole that nozzle goes in make sure its clean.
reverse to assemble
MAKE SURE YOU ALIGN THE NOZZLE BEFORE INSTALLING CLAMP. THER ARE 3 LITTLE TIMING BUMPS FOR ALIGNMENT
If yours is similar to mine its not hard at all. I didnt have a way to test the nozzle spray while the injector was out. only thing I couldnt do while it was out.

Check the label under the hood for EPA certifications.
If it says US certifications- you should be able to get the recall.
When it says "Canada" only -you might be out of luck.
When the modifications will not do much to your car - they are followed by 4 years all the emission components warranty and reimbursement check.

I have no Idea what to say, for a car thats only 80000miles, Im told the Catalytic converter and two Nox sensors need replacement. $6500 USD, please help is there anyway to get this done cheaper? Is there anyone who is in Canada who has gotten emissions stuff covered in the States ? Im being told because its a Canadian Car I can’t even get “good will” from the dealership.

Did you check the label?
From what I read Canadian owners delete DPF right and left. No worry about pollution in that country.
Aftermarket DPF cost about $1100 and NOx sensor probes about $80, so you can save a lot from dealers estimate.

Hi harm9, my 2014 GL has 8 yr/120k KM warranty on some emissions components and SCR is one of them but 85k miles probably puts your car out of Canadian extended emissions warranty. Not sure what the emissions warranty on the SCR is in the US and if it’s covered under some EPA guidelines there, may want to look into that. NOx however isn’t covered under extended warranty and I recently forked $2000 to get both sensors replaced at the dealership. My GL only has 72k KM!
Also, US Bluetec lawsuit doesn’t apply to Canadian vehicles but Mercedes Canada said if in the future there is similar settlement in Canada I “might” be eligible for reimbursement on NOx if they are replaced by the dealer hence my decision to get them done at the dealer. OEM NOx sensors are expensive at approx $1600 for both, labour is only 2-2.5 hrs I think.

Again, NOx probes sell for $80 on ebay.
When you have a lift, removing belly pans takes longer than replace the probe.
