Head casting # on om603 -Upside down?

Head casting # on om603 -Upside down?
Hope someone here can help.
Recently ran into an OM603- supposedly low miles...
The head was a number 22 - which is great... BUT- it was upside down when reading it from the driver's side LH--USA
So it seemed very odd-- I have NEVER seen an OM603 w/ any casting # upside down.

Good news -is injectors were angled

Is this a fake? or did MB sometimes do upside down #'s???

You are talking about 30 years old engine.
Why does it matter what head it is, if it lasted all those years?

Motor was pulled from the car.... supposedly wrecked and low mileage. That is all I know.
Just seemed really odd- never seen it b4
