De-coking
Someone told me that occasionally adding a quart of SAE 30 non-detergent motor oil to the fuel tank would help in burning off any coking that might have collected on the injectors. I'm wondering what damage this might cause.

Is this for 1981 model?
I remember buying new injector tips for those for like $4-fifty. Obviously that was like 20 years ago, so adjust the price for inflation.
Beware that new, electronic injectors are totally different animals. They require coding and when wrongly coded, the misaligned fuel injections can burn hole in pistons.
As for old remedies, when I never tired it, the wisdom says that adding high-detergent ATF into fuel, not only cleans the system, but helps prevent diesel gelling in winter.

This is a 1981 300TD. Someone told me that a quart of sae30 non detergent motor oil, occasionally in the fuel tank, would help burn off any deposits on the injectors. Would there be any problem doing this?

I don't see how there could be a problem, but I doubt anything good will come of it, either. Try something like FPPF Total Power or Power Service Diesel Kleen instead.

Actually its suppose to be conventional 2 stroke oil that helps with everything diesel. Been proven to boost cetane as much as any additive. Its gota be conventional and not the synthetic stuff. As far as the injectors I doubt any thing will make a difference. Not sure ive heard of injectors coking up either. Now turbos running conventional oil theoretically maybe
