Intermittent locking out of park, won't start
2009 ML320 just had diesel recall done. Car checked over by dealer, all ok.
Moving from Fl to NE, car began having problem starting. It locks out of gear (won't recognize what gear it is in) dash lights up but will not start.
Towed 4 times to dealers who fixed it to the tune of over $4k and gave it back. Sometimes it drove for awhile, other times same problem next day.
At destination, left it at a mechanic I could trust, but no one can find the problem
2 new batteries, ignition module, now replacing ignition switch, suggestions, transmission solenoid, SAM, actual shift lever,
Checked multiple MB forums and posted elsewhere.
No one reporting this problem.
What could cause the car to NOT recognize the gear it is in and refuse to start, but only intermittently. Car is not high mileage, only 100k.

Get a scanner and scan it when it happens.
I have HT200 (AP clone) and when I had no starting issue, it displayed nice page with all parameters needed for start, where those values not meeting the minimum were in red.
Child's play even for guy who doesn't understand software like I do.
Statistically the biggest suspect would be pilot bushing contamination, who could make it to TCU.
