1985 300CD Issues
My wife drove my 1985 300CD for several minutes after it overheated.
- All coolant leaked out
- Decent oil leak
- Wouldn't crank
I then did a full oil change and replaced the coolant. Not leaking oil anymore. Not leaking coolant anymore.
Now it cranks and runs, but sounds awful.
Any experience with this noise?

Noise is something very hard to judge over the internet, but is engine running smooth?
If not, you can crank injector fuel lines and observe if rpm change.
Not working cylinder will make no change,

That does not sound good. Do you still have the old oil? You might want to have an analysis one ion it. Does it have a metallic sheen?
Did the normal amount of oil drain out? Where was the leak? Is the oil pressure normal?
