New guy with engine codes

Good morning all!
I purchased a 2010 ML350 blutec last week with engine codes of P0101 and 150300. This being my first diesel I thought that it would be an easy MAF cleaning or swap. Not so much. I did the cleaning, cleared the codes and it was good for one drive. I then attempted to replace it and the parts store got me the gas MAF because that is what their computer says fits on a 3.0 diesel (I looked at the screen, not the person's error). Did a bit more digging and there is talk of replacing one of the MAF modules (which one or where from I don't know), replacing the whole thing, and then somebody fixed theirs by fixing their DEF heater (Huh?). I have found a few threads on this forum and other places on the web but no answers posted. This vehicle has NOT done the emissions change at the stealership yet. So my question is, what is the suggested fix for my CEL and will the emissions update fix it anyway?

I did post this in my model forum and was told it was better to post here =)

Cheers,
Tony

IMHO I would get the emissions fix done then see what happens after that. Could be chasing parts and replacing stuff thats gonna get fixed anyhow. Depends on what the Dbag dealer says though, knowing them they may try to bill you for fixing the error codes then do the emissions fix and rake in twice as much money.

Dont know what those codes are, gotta get those read so you know what actual is.

Emissions update should get that fixed as well as warranty it. If they are still doing them (I think I remember an expiration date on the dealerships doing that but someone may be able to verify)

Edit; Check here: https://bluetecupdate.mbusa.com/faq

They are still doing them. I called the dealer to be sure and have the parts on their way! The expiration is 31, Oct 2023.

Doesn't your 3l has 2 MAFs ?
I would ditto to do AEM, if they accept the car with the codes and worry about the rest later.
Beware that the clean air ducting has seal going into turbo, who likes to deteriorate and should be replaced at each disturbance.

Had a CEL, stuttering acceleration, and MAF was fixed under the AEM warranty. Also had suspension compressor replaced at the same time on an aftermarket extended warranty.

Just got mine back from the stealership. You are correct!! They went ahead and fixed it because it was related. They did mess up my windows though, none of them auto close and all of them will auto reopen!! Yes, that's right, after dealer service, my windows do not work properly. Any tips on how to reset the windows? I tried the BMW method and that does not work.

Common occurrence after vehicle power source is interrupted or battery disconnected. Try this, roll down (full click) and hold down for 10 seconds, then roll up and hold up for 10 seconds. You can do multiple windows at once. Why the service departments don’t do this I don’t know.

Im not sure what the BMW method is but it might be similar but not the same.

Congrats on getting it fixed free with a pre-existing CEL. In the FAQ section, if I read it correctly, it said that if there is a problem prior to the AEM, even for an affected component, the customer would have to pay for it. Your dealership worked some magic there!

If you're talking about the settlement money, I am pretty sure you're too late for that.

Ah, OK. I didn't realize it was extended. The bluetec settlement website still has this:

As far as I read, it is not extended cash settlement, but new MB USA program to motivate more owners to do AEM.
They have obligation to do certain number of AEM and since not too many owners went for it, that is how MB USA is dealing with it.
