Help With Turbo Replacement
I have an 2011 R350 Diesel that I need to replace the turbo charger and I have zero experience with this setup and am fairly new to Mercedes.
I was wondering where I could find a procedure for replacing the unit.
It looks like turbos going bad are a common problem and that replacement turbos run several hundred to several thousand dollars. I was wondering who makes a good quality unit that will not break the bank.

Was your car subject to the AEM issue with diesel emissions? If the update "recall" (yes, I know it isn't technically a recall) was done within a certain time frame, your turbo may be covered for free. Were I you, I'd go the Mercedes website and run the VIN through the checker. Google'll find it for ya.

Turbo replacement it is not a beginners job and OM642 engine sucks with access.
But what's the mileage and what symptoms do you have? Those turbos are recorded to last 300-400,000 miles.

I am new to Mercedes Diesels but not a novice mechanic. Sorry if my wording was confusing. I am a licensed Aircraft mechanic and have done a lot of work on Mercedes gas vehicles, and heavy diesels, I just haven't tried something like this yet.

Then it's easy for you to understand why is forbidden to use sharp tools for cleaning or any type of sealant. Only new gaskets and some patience.
