OM651 924 Crankshaft problems
My E220 2010 w212 knocked out the thrust bearing and one big end bearing and seized.
I got the crankshaft reground on all journals and bought new shells.
On refitting the crank found that the block and bearing caps assembly had warped.
I purchased another engine with the same number OM651 924 that was knocking but still turned ok to use the block.
Stripped it down to find that these two engines with the same numbers are not the same.
The crank shaft thrust bearings are in different positions ie on center main my original and the replacement block/ crank on journal number 4.
Both cranks are of the 8 web type original part A6510300401 A6510409T313 centre thrust, replacement part A6510301901 A6511911T046 they look the same.
The balance shafts are slightly different as my original warped ones have no line on them to line up with the casting for the timing.
My questions are.
1 Can i have my original crank shaft with the center thrust ground to take the thrust at number 4 journal so it then fits in the replacement block and use my new shells.
2 Would i need to use my original balance shafts and rods ie are they balanced as a set or individually balanced.
3 What are the reasons for the position change of the thrusts
The cause of knocking out the big end and main brg from what i can see, is oil starvation due to a completely clogged oil pick up in the sump of the original engine.
The replacement block is due to water getting into cylinder 4 and hydraulicing for a long time and putting force on the crankshaft, hopefully a cracked head no visible signs ,need to dye test to be sure its not the cylinder wall.
Hope someone can help with this Thanks Bob
