E350 coupe - sir you are respected as being a ex lawman, and thank you for having taken a lot of those booming/farting modified exhaust cars off the road, but that doesn't make you an authority on the subject.
please do not generise the law, you should have mentioned "illegal in Canada" or whatever, a lot of us don't live in Canada.
TUV type approval is not Mickey Mouse stuff, those guys are hardcore engineers at VATH, inside the muffler are baffles as well as filling, there is a run-in period of 3000km when the filling stabilises. They weigh 2kg more than the stock and thats why
they cost US$3000, it's the real mcCoy, made by professionals with a different angle then AMG for connoiseurs!
remember some time ago AMG were the same type of company, modifying customer's cars, and MB bought them!
i am curious to know what is the legal standard in Canada 75db?
and maximum 82 right?
so mine is 5db above the standard and should still be legal then?
i mean do they use the DB at idle or do they rev it to the red line to get the db reading?

I guess this means you will not be replying to the 550 tips for sale or rear carbon fibre spoiler I sent questions about?

??

I think there is a difference in the ricey LOUD and nicely SMOOTH sound from the exhaust. And a good quality exhaust will make the car more powerful and fuel efficient because there are so many restrictions and regulations. Most european cars with a nice set of cat back exhaust will make the car sound deeper and nicer but not too loud. Therefore, most police officers don't really care (most of them don't even know if they are OEM or not). My opinion is if C63 AMG is street legal in sound, then a nice smooth exhaust for a E550 Coupe will be alright.

if u have the 550 and add the exhaust, that's motoring heaven!!
nothing beats a V8!

ricey- well i suppose that's the usual single exit and muffler N type stuff,
from a 4 cylinder...it's not worth talking about, they sound awful.
get onto youtube and watch 6.3 clk dtm, to get your self some inspiration!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEKd1...eature=related

Ricey- mods with no taste, or teenage-racer kind of mods. (eg. Imaging a big GT wing on a E550 Coupe or even sedan! )

I would think 550 with the exhaust system will give it a little more growl to it without losing the smoothness of it. (given you are willing to spend $$ into a quality exhaust system)

Thanks for the advice and welcome to the forums. I've had my 550 for almost 6 months now.

Hey E350, so wait you live in bc?

I have been driving around in BC with a modded exhaust and I have never gotten a ticket for it and no police has EVER used a DB meter on me.
