OK got my curiosity why, and for what reason, would you hack the homelink.

I wanted to get it to work with a rolling-code garage door opener that can't be trained, so I had to mount a module under the dash to convert the signal from rolling-code to fixed-code.

Pardon my lack of knowledge but are the shifters on the Coupe models in the center console? I never looked inside one so I assumed they had the same shifters on the steering wheel column like on the Sedans.

For North America, sedans get DIRECT SELECT (on the column), coupes/cabs get the console-mount shifter.

Under the sliding wood door panel on the center console what do you have? 2 cup holders? I think that is very nice and sharp looking as the US Spec cars have 2 cup holders exposed in that same location and it looks very cheap in my option and something you would see on Japanese or Korean cars. I personally think the way your center console area is laid out looks much nicer and classier with the covered wood sliding door matching how the cup holders are in the rear. I wonder why MBUSA decide to make the US spec coupes and convertibles front cup holders exposed as I think they are that way only in the US market and it can not be for a safety reason either as E-Class Sedan also has the cup holders hidden under a wood cover just like your coupe.

The price on the E-Class coupe in Canada vs the USA once you load them up and compare them comparable equipped depending if you are looking at 350 or 550 the price is about $1.9k on 350 and about $1k on 550 because the 550 comes standard with Napa leather and both come standard with metallic paint in Canada those 2 options are $1370 for Napa Leather and $720 metallic paint except for Diamond White which is $1,515. So if you look at a Diamond White with Napa Leather loaded comparable in an equipment to Canada Spec car which has tons more standard options the price difference after converting to US dollars comes out to $971 today. Now if you are comparing non metallic colors, sure the USA would be cheaper by that price on top of the above estimates I gave and in the USA the 2 most popular colors are non metallic black and white but that could also be partly because both are standard colors. I also noticed for example on 350 in Canada uses the same transmission as the 550 ie dynamic handling package which is not offered at all on the 350 in the USA which is worth something by itself as well.

My car is a Canadian car, I simply replaced the center console with the euro-spec model. The North American cars have cupholders because of market demands - some people just won't buy a car without adequate cupholders.

I see, so you are missing the front 2 cup holders then completely? I wonder why they could not make the front cup holders like the ones in the back seat which are hidden by a wood roll-top cover. Either way I still think the European center console is much nicer looking, and would be perfect if under that door it had 2 cup holders. While I do like cup holders, I would never not buy a car over the fact it did or did not have cup holders that sounds silly if you ask me.

Thanks for the pics.

You can get an insert to convert the storage area to two cupholders, but they won't hold a "big gulp" anymore!

Did you replace the whole center console or just the area with cupholders? If its the later, do you mind sharing details of where to get this "euro-spec" part, how much is it and if its available in "brown" wood? TIA.

Unfortunately, the entire console must be replaced.

Close to $1,000 CAD for all parts. The wood is relatively cheap (around $100 IIRC), its the console that is expensive. I did the installation myself.

I had the dealer swap the OEM tails for the euro-spec tails before I took delivery as I wanted the amber turn signal lights.

Really nice! Can you share a few details?

Paint: is this one of the new Mercedes "mat" finishes? or did you have to
"polish" (or un-polish) the factory paint (palladium?)

Wheels: I saw the detail king ads, I think those a "replicas" on the original
CLS AMG wheel, or are they original AMG (for the price he quoted I would be
surprised if they are AMG).

Lowering: How do you plan to do this? With the set up on the E550C I was
told it would be a new set of springs for the front and software upload for
the rear - only no one had the software available: not Eibach, not H&R...
only Brabus had something for the coupe.

Congratulations!

The paint is designo MAGNO Platinum (basically matte Palladium Silver), as ordered from the factory.

They are AMG replicas - very limited wheel selection for this car as I'm sure you remember due to the high offsets - the only real options were these or the ones you had if you want to keep the OEM look. The only OEM option that would fit was the 19" C63 multi-spoke wheel, and it is only 9" wide in the rear.

The coupe doesn't use AIRMATIC, the suspension is just coil springs. I have C63 springs I am going to have installed on Wednesday. Keeping the same shocks due to the dynamic handling component. I have no idea if the springs will work, but you only live once!

Well, I am very interested to hear how this transplant will work. It was sooo
frustrating that no one has proper lowering solutions for the 550C....and no real
prospects in the near future either, due to low volume model, and apparently
even lower interest in any modifications in this segment.
I know the 550C is not AIRMATIC, but still, when I spoke to Eibach in Germany
they said that the rear will be a software lowering.

Please post pictures before and after lowering!
