Kleemann wants the ''pumpkin'' sent in...they have to do some machining for their LSD. If the Quaife is a direct fit, that would be my choice, though once installed, you're not likely to revert to stock (labor costs as much as the part).

I have an email address that Quaife UK gave me to follow up on the proper SKU for our cars. Birds Garage in the UK....send them your VIN and they'll give you the P/N.

Do you have any rubbing issues with 275/30/19, what is the offset on those wheels?

OEM C63 AMG's for winter and optional 19's for summer. Same setup as the front and 9" and ET54 rears. No issues with either set.

Here is an update for you guys out there looking for some solution to control that bad *** rear end of the E550 Coupe

1. I put a set of 19" wheels/ tires 245 fronts, 275 back. Rubber is Michelin Super Sport. Result 100% improvement in handling this is the best tire I ever had, dry traction is out of this world. Wet traction is very good for summer tire. However, that was not enough to control the beast's rear end. Tirerack is number 1

2. I FINALLY DID IT, a Quaife unit is working it's magic in my E550 rear end. Yes indeed that was the best C$2400 I ever spent. At first I did not notice a lot of difference in dry weather because of tire's sufficient traction. Today it rained and WHAT a HUGE difference.

I love this car now my mods are officially complete. I have to thank James @ ACG he was a true gentlemen despite the the fact that I did not order anything from him he was kind enough to support the process with advise, part numbers, etc. Thanks James you are a good man.

I have a 211 E550, do you have a part number and contact info for the LSD parts. Thanks in advance for your help. Did the cost include installation?

Seems they would sell more if they listed with all possible options instead of only the E55.

Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for the response. I am sure I will be able to locate them.
I understand that it is a lot of work on the E550 because the suspension is in the way.

We've ordered a 2012 E550 coupe and have concerns about the lack of a LSD option. We might be looking for a Quaife unit also. Does anyone in Houston area have local information?

Update: our MBZ dealer has offered to install a Quaife unit at a fair price after the new vehicle arrives. Seems they've installed Quaife units before with good results.

I told them to proceed and have it installed before we pick up the vehicle.

Bad news from the dealer today. The Quaife said they ordered was (QDF9V) and doesn't fit the 2012 differential: 5mm difference. What's weird the dealer said the differential on the 2012 carries the same part number as the previous years E550C differentials.
Something odd.

I've contacted Renntech. They have their own LSD http://www.renntechmercedes.com/www/node/209
It's not like Quaife's unit in design, but "a unique, patented, clutch-type LSD (http://www.renntechmercedes.com/www/...full/giken.jpg) which makes this a true100% locking differential. Because of this function, there is no movement of internal parts, leading to less heat being generated while in operation and in turn, less wear of the friction disks".

Renntech's is more expensive though.
They're checking engineering to see if it will fit the 2012 E550C.

From Quaife's top installer/dealer

John,
We cannot identify from the parts catalogue what it is you need. If I were to guess, I would also expect it to be the QDF9v, but clearly that isn't correct.

The only way forward with this is to get your technicians to measure and collect data from the existing differential. We would then compare it to the 10 versions we have already identified, and if we get a match, you could be in luck.

What I would need is photos of the part numbers cast into the final drive housing, and the differential itself.
Plus I would need the dimensions of all the measuring points against the attached drawing.

Regards, Kevin Bird

Here's the latest from Quaife regarding a LSD for the 2012 E 550 coupe/cab.

"I regret this is not possible. You could take the risk to machine the Quaife flange down by 5mm, but that is risky, and will dramatically reduce the load carrying capacity of the differential flange. I have utmost faith in the fact that the Quaife is hugely overdesigned, but certainly Quaife would not condone that measure.

The only immediate possibility is to swap the final drive you have with a C63 version. This has the correct casing size, input and output shafts, and has a big additional benefit of having a drive ratio 2.82:1. So you will increase the torque output at the driving wheels by 16%, which is a great modification for acceleration performance increase. Of course you will loose a little of the fuel economy that MB have designed into this car, but my guess is that you haven't bought the car for that anyway!

We can supply a complete final drive, ready to install with "Quaife Inside" per the attached. If there is enough demand, we (ed) could develop a new version."

The tech at the MBZ dealer said the Transmission might need to be reprogrammed to use the new drive ratio 2.82:1 (from the C63),
but the Quaife tech said he's not aware of any such need: "I am unaware of any need to reprogram the software of the transmission to suit the final drive ratio changes. As far as I am aware, the only transmission types we have come across that are sensitive to rear wheel speed are the "automated manual" gearboxes, like BMW SMG or Dual Clutch transmission types. ".
He also made this comment: "I do know that the stability control system on MB cars can be upset by installing conventional LSDs, which is why the Quaife is so popular, because it doesn't trigger any issues."

If it's done, I wonder how much acceleration the E would gain with the new gear ratio?
