OCTOBER 2010 -- Mercedes Benz is recalling certain model year 2011 M- Class, model W164, GL-Class, model X164, E-Class, model W212, R-Class, and model V251vehicles. The O-ring may not have been properly lubricated in all cases. Lack of lubrication can lead to leakage of the fuel filter. Diesel fuel may be deposited on roads and making those roads slippery, increasing the potential for a crash. Dealers will replace the fuel filters free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin during November 2010. 10V-540
NEWS: Mercedes recalling 85,000 autos over power steering
YAHOO NEWS -- October 11, 2010 – Daimler AG said Monday it was recalling about 85,000 Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the United States to prevent a loss of power steering fluid.
The government's auto safety agency said in a posting to its website Monday that the recall involved Mercedes-Benz C-Class vehicles from the 2010 model year and Mercedes-Benz E-Class vehicles from the 2010-2011 model years. The recall involves vehicles produced between June 2009 and late February 2010.
Daimler told the government that the loss of fluid could make it difficult to control the vehicle in a parking lot, where maximum power steering is required.
The German automaker said in a statement that the gradual loss of fluid was generally followed by a whining noise from the power steering's pump, which could make it difficult to steer while parking.
Daimler said the vehicle remains steerable. The recall is expected to begin this month.
