I've always used an independent shop. Just wondering what MB does for the 10K service besides an oil change and tire rotation.

Inspect
belts, hoses, tire inflation, fluids, wiper blades, rotate tires if non staggered, check battery, check bulbs, etc.
Good visual inspection and change oil 0w40 mobil1 and fleece filter.
Reset Service light. If you need a link to inspection items fire off a pm and I can dig one up.

Dealer charges a ton. I won't be using the dealership for the services. They are not actually "mandatory" like they tend to make you believe. If you look in the owners manual at what is included it's extremely basic stuff. Mostly just checking things to make sure they are fine.

However if they are not performed
and checked off and you are under warranty MB can negate that portion of the warranty if you failed or the indie shop failed to perform it.
Anyone can do the work as long as it is done.

I got a postcard the other day from the dealer and cringed as I know what these "services" are all about. Basically an overpriced, glorified oil change and "inspection" that involves a quick glance and an obligatory, "Yeah, that looks okay. Check." In the past they've failed to perform numerous checks or replacements; like not changing old wipers that Stevie Wonder could see needed swapping out or changing the oil and not putting any back in... I'd keep an eye on them if you go the dealer route. However, I'll be taking mine in as I have some minor knocks in the front still, some noise from my DVD player and some creeks in my roof/sunroof coming from its center divider/rollbar. I'll certainly be asking for a discount on the service knowing they're bound to mess something up requiring another trip back.
