http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwRWnzYYt_8

It would be a 2012 facelifted "R" Cab, Metallic Black, Black Top, Charcoal Interior with Ivory Stitching and Black Piano Wood. 510hp

Ready to give the depo, thoughts much appreciated.

Thanks

I've got to admit they're fantastic cars, I looked at the regular drop top, fuel prices here pretty much condemn the ability to run the XKR but they're really nice, they do sound amazing too, I did upset a guy in one last week in my cab though, didn't think he was expecting mine to pull off so quickly haha

2012 E350 Coupe
It's a good thing I keep spare undies close by for moments such as this. She's a beauty and your color scheme is baaaaad (in the good way).

I say get both.

There - no decisions to make - no problem! Not for my wallet anyway.

Thanks Gents.

MB369, I can only do one so it may be the R providing everything works out with the dealership and Jag rep. The smell of the English leather is simply intoxicating as are the lines of the body, the 12's should be even nicer with a touch more Aston.

Dr Nab, the difference in EPA fuel economy of 15 for the R is only 1 mpg less and in city mode only, highway is the same 22 mpg, not bad for a 510 HP car. Quarter mile trap speeds for the XKR have been reported between 114-116 mph; that's E55/63 territory.

Yes, but more in line with my C2S when I got it in early 07. The $30k over the 550 cab is for the R version, the non R cab is $89k which is a more reasonable comp to the E550cab and more so the SL
I still think the E550 Cab is a lot of car for the money, luv it.

11 E550 Cabriolet
My .02

Having owned my E550 Cabrio for 7 months I can't say anything but great things about it. It has the looks, gets the looks, plenty of hp & torque and puts a huge smile on my face every time I turn the key.

While the Jag is a sweet looking ride and probably fun to drive I feel MB still has a lot of prestige over the Jag. I think you'll be very happy with a E550 Cabro plus some of the new exterior and interior color options for 2012 are sharp.

so...
the 510HP jag cab (XKR) starts at $102k and has a performance of 4.6 to 60
the 385HP jag (XK) starts at $89k and has a performance of 5.3 to 60.
& the 2012 550c starts at $65k and will have 400HP (and probably the highest torque rating) and a performance of (i'm guessing) sub 4.6 to 60.

wish i had 1/4 mile splits to compare ... the jag interior looks a bit boring imho, although i've seen a couple R's around the country club and they are inspiring and beautiful. plus as you said the leather is outstanding. the older models i've seen around the office aren't very jaw dropping but hopefully you're right and the new ones steal (*cough* borrow) that AM look. man, if you could find a slightly TLC'd aston, why not pony up?? nothing like that V12 to wake you up in the morning.

good luck choosing man, the more $$ you have to spend the harder the decision gets.

The jags are all thankfully very fully loaded with only a few over the top options. The quarter mile trap speeds of the current XKR are 114-116 mph (E55/63 territory) far outpacing the 550's 107-109 mph; I'd guess the new DFI V8's times will be 109-111.
220S, posted drag racing for the same thread on the W212 area between the R jags and S63, SL600 and M3, as you will see it slaughtered them all...

Yes the more $$$ the more options, but +/- $100K is enough for me, for now.

Thanks and here's the videos:

Just for fun here are some of Gustav's videos of the XKR. It's a fast car.

p.s., the last one is the XFR

How much does XKR go for? I reckon you can get a Grand Turismo at that price range.

"The AJ-V8 Gen III engine was designed by Jaguar engineers at Whitley but it is built by Ford as they used to own Jaguar and obviously have more resources to do the job."
Gotta drive one.

Before the current 5.0 supercharged engine for the XKR and XKRS went into full production this was what was going on behind the scenes; and as it turned out the R got 510hp and the S 550hp:

The Ford VP said "We are making a Jaguar Supercar, it will be an even more aggressive version of the XKR. We haven't named it yet, but look for output to slightly exceed 500 horsepower."

After he was asked why it was being built, this is what he said "We want to attack Ferrari and Lamborghini on their own turf. The Ford GT was a great start, but it didn't have the name that Jaguar has, especially in Europe. And Aston (Martin) doesn't sell in certain parts of Europe. So we figured that we'd give our next super engine to an XK Jaguar. People in the U.S. and Europe alike will think twice before buying an Italian supercar when they see our new XK supercar".

It took the supercharged Ford GT supercar's engine 5.4 litres to produce 550hp and AMG 493 with their Supercharged 5.4 V8; with a little magic from Jag the new R engines produce 510 hp from just 5.0 litres. The new XKR-S is 550. There are some great videos in the same thread on the w212 forum (post #16) where the XKR and XFR annihilate an S63AMG, SL65AMG and M3...
