The article discussed the M278 in the CL550: rated at 429 hp. OE tuning stated the difference in rating between the CL550 & E/CLS550 M278 is "exhaust". Not sure what that means in terms of hardware.
OE Tuning shows this on their site for tuning gains (wheel hp) for the E/CLS550 engine:
"+65wTq@4400rpm & +40wHp@5100rpm. Boost levels were increased along with torque management, to achieve said figures. This same power plant can also be found in current & future S550, CL550, E550, SL550 US models. This vehicle is also known as the CLS500 4.6L Bi-Turbo in other parts of the world."
Carlsson lists these upgrades for the E550 Coupe/M278:
"Performance Kit CK 50
consists of:
special electronic set-up of the
engine management system,
Vmax delimiter, Carlsson chrome lettering.
Carlsson C/A 207 ; W/S 212 ; C 218
max. power: 349 kW (475 hp) bei 5250 rpm
max. torque: 687 Nm bei 1800 - 3500 rpm
V-max: 285 km/h,
(emission standard Euro 5)
The modification of the engine computer is only possible at Carlsson at Gut Wiesenhof.
The engine computer can also be sent to Carlsson directly
(delivery time about 1 week).
Compatible to following engines:
- M 278.922
- M 278.920
- M 278.932 "
