Pre-paid maintenance & repair
I'm buying an E350 coupe tomorrow. Anyone get the silver to platinum prepaid maintenane and repair packages? Range from $5K to $11K. Profiteering or cost-effective insurance?

Those packages don't sound like the OEM Mercedes offerings. Unless perhaps your seller is combining several coverages, e.g. wheels/tires, body dings, etc. in with one of the pre-paid required maintenance packages???
At any rate, I personally would never shell out $5-11K for any kind of post-purchase add-ons. Just IMO of course.
I did purchase Mercedes' 4 year/40K miles "Star Service Pre-paid Maintenance" package a few weeks ago from my dealer. Although mine is a 2012 model, I got it for the new, lower 2013 price: $1,499.
Previously, I had purchased the wheel/tires insurance for $1,199. Given the condition of the roads around here and the vulnerability of the 18" AMG rims and UHP low-profile tires on the car, I felt there was a solid chance this would unfortunately pay off sooner or later.
My service advisor ran the numbers for me on the cost for the services covered by the maintenance plan I bought and came up with $1,833. And that's at today's prices. They will probably only go in one direction - up - over the next four years. So I felt $1,499 was reasonable.
All totaled -I've put out $2,698, for services I either definitely or more than likely will use. That's my limit.
