Winter Tires - E550 Coupe

Hey guys,

I am located in Toronto, Canada and looking to get winter tires for my 2012 E550 Coupe. It will be my first winter with this car, but not my first with RWD, so I know I need a dedicated winter tire.

I have 19" summer wheels so looking to repurpose my stock AMG wheels (staggered 8 x 18 front and 8.5 x 18 rear) for winter use.

Question:
Should I be looking at going with stock fitment for tires?
-- 235/40/18 and 255/35/18
or
Will a 235/40/18 be a better option for winter driving?
Will 235/40/18 fit ok on the wider rear wheel or too stretched?

Looking for advice from those who have purchased winter tires for an E550 Coupe and leveraged the stock wheels.

Great question Venom. I too am trying to plan for the upcoming winter with my E550 and am planning to put dedicated winters on my stock AMG wheels. I am considering 235/40/18 all around or 245/40/18 all around but not sure what to do at this point. Thought about stock staggered fitment but haven't been able to find a good selection of winter tires available in the necessary sizes.

Hope someone out there can provide some advice to us first winter drivers.

I am using my stock wheels for winter wheels, and went with 245/40/18 Kumho's all round due to what was available. They look fine and aren't too wide or too skinny for front/rears. You'll be fine with 235's all round if that's what you can get your hands on.

I am running 235/40/19 front and 265/30/19 rear. But i have to change the rear, one of the tire is broken,so decided to go with 275/30/19.My advice for you is 255 at the rear.

Thanks for the quick response guys!

I will go with 235/40/18's all around as I found a tire in that size that I really like, and is available. Glad to know it will work with the stock rear rim.

I do trips up north and to Montreal a lot so prefer the narrow tire (just in case). Not looking forward to the poor rear traction in the dry, but I would rather have a safe winter driving experience when it snows. Oh well..

I am going with Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2.

I have enjoyed Hakka's on all my other cars and I find they make a huge difference, especially with RWD.

Will the rear wheels fit the front? Reason I ask.. Will I be able to rotate all 4 tires, or limited due to different wheel sizes?
