Same problem on my 2010 E350, which was out of warranty. The plastic part alone is $55. I had some duct tape by SureTape that was a very thin mylar with chrome facing. I snipped off the small part of the chrome on the handle that was peeling, and applied a small strip of the tape that covered the peeling part and wrapped around the back of the handle. Voila! No visible peel, no cut fingers, and it is unnoticeable to the casual eye.

Hi,
I wondered if anyone else with a coupe had experienced this issue and could give input...
On my coupe, the drive and passenger seats have a chrome covered 'handle' that is used to flip the seat forward allowing passengers to access the rear seats.
I've noticed that the chrome on these handles has started to peel significantly.
I will take this to the dealer and hope to get both handles replaced under warranty. The passenger side chrome peeled enough that it actually cut my skin - in a similar fashion to a paper cut. To be clear, this is not the exterior door handle or the interior door handle - see the attached picture for reference.
Anyone also having peeling rear access handles?
Thanks,
Rich

Hi All,
The dealer where I originally purchased the car didn’t want to know and my local dealer wouldn’t consider it a warranty replacement even though I was only just outside my warranty. I purchased the car used with the handle in that condition but it’s apparently a mammoth task to fix - two days’ work I was told, so you can imagine the cost.
I got on to MB customer service and put MB on notice of my intention to bring personal injury proceedings in court as it’s defective handle had sliced my finger open and suddenly there was a change of tune. I was given a dedicated escalation point and he contacted my local dealer to have it replaced for free. I was disappointed it took this for MB to fix what was obviously a “known issue.”

Replace backseat latch
This guy has a good guide to replace it
This shows the removal of the headrest which this guy above does not show.
Bought the part off of Ebay
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Mer...e/353156034845
Hope this helps anyone wanting to replace the latch.

My 5 year old gets in and out of the back so I'd like to sort this before any injuries happen

There are some comments in the videos on YouTube that will help you with the finer points of removal - on the headrest, make sure the you don't fully remove the metal u-clip holding one of the head rest posts. Just pry it up enough to relieve the pressure, so you can remove the headrest. If you take the clip completely off - it's an absolute nightmare to get back on (I lived this).
Good Luck. In the short term, it won't look nice, but take some duct tape and round off the sharp edges on the handle. I wouldn't want another kiddo to slice their hands too.

The chrome on my passenger side release had started to peel. After reading this thread, I decided to go with the simps solution - cover the peeling edge with clear Scotch heavy duty packing tape.
Solved the problem and very difficult to detect.
"I won't tell if you don't." - Oh wait, I just did. Darn

Thanks fellas. The vinyl I've applied to the outer side of the handle was amazon's finest which turned out to be too inflexible, probably for furniture rather than for automotive use despite the advert so for now I've totally dechromed them to mitigate the injuries.
$40 a pop for each handle doesn't sound too unreasonable, I've just no faith it won't happen again within a year of installation. Thanks for the replies

Unclipping head restraint post from motor?
Apologies for resurrecting an older thread, but I too am dealing with peeling chrome on the seat handles of my W207 and want to replaced them. I am at the stage of unclipping the the head restraint post from where they clip into the motor, but cannot for the life of me figure out how they unclips. Pic attached. This step 4 in the very helpful pdf in this thread titled 'Remove head restraint'. I am concerned if I try and pull the head restraint out too hard I'll break something. I have removed the U-bolt (step 5), and incidentally it's sprung off into the seat internals somewhere, still to be found...
Thank you
Thank you
