Engine tune - RENNtech or OE Tuning?

Hi everyone,

I was thinking of getting an engine tune and started reviewing RENNTech and OE Tuning. These are the two upgrades I see as 'comparable'.

RENNtech:
http://www.renntechmercedes.com/www/node/196

OE Tuning:
https://oetuning.com/oe-tuning-produ...z-e550500.html

The OE Tuning upgrade is notably cheaper and appears to offer a slightly higher HP gain.

I get the impression RENNtech has a better reputation in terms of Mercedes work, but I was curious to hear from owners that have used either product.

Thanks,

Richard

I've had an OEtuning tune on my 2010 e550 for a couple months now and it's been flawless. I preferred it over the renntech tune because of the ability to upload the tune myself without sending my ecu anywhere. Another bonus is that you can reload it if the dealer ever resets you back to stock (if you buy it with the flash loader). I have not seen any negative feedback on either tune.

+1 for OE tuning. I have the OE tune on my 2011 E550 as well and its the best bang for your buck. The E550 NA engine Renntech tune is over priced IMO and would probably only be worth it if you were tuning a E550 bi turbo. I would also recommend removing both sets of resonators and replacing with straight pipes or an x pipe. As well as K&N air filters. OE tuning will tune your E550 with these two modifications and it will give you slightly more horsepower than 414. Hope this helps

Thanks for the input everyone. Good to see the OEtuning tune has some good feedback.

Loungn14 - I did look at the Eurocharged website, but I didnt see an ECU tune specific to the E550, 2010 (non biturbo version). Can you provide a direct link if I've missed it.

Barca93 - how long have you had the OEtuning upgrade installed?

Thanks,

Richard

I have heard nothing but positive feedback about OE Tuning. Considering that the C207 platform has been around for a while, you should be good to go with whatever tune you choose, be it OE, Eurocharged or RENNtech. It really comes down to cost, and most importantly, service that you receive.

I may be wrong but I don't think the sprint booster adds any power, I think they just improve throttle response. A tune will add roughly ~20hp, and for 600$ it's probably the best option for these cars (hp/$ wise)

I originally showed interest in getting a EuroCharged tune when they were doing a Canada wide tour but it never happened. Not sure what went on, signed up on two forums and never heard back.

Correct about the Sprintbooster. I have used it in a few cars where a tune was not practical and it does provide the "illusion" that you have more power because of the remapped throttle. It would not be a replacement for a proper tune if one is available.

I've had it for 7 months with no problems. I would recommend getting the flash device they sell so you can change from tuned to stock when ever you want. And the price is a lot lower now than when I purchased it. Un fortunate for me, but I got lucky and purchased it during a sale they had so I didn't pay too much.

Sprint Booster doesn't add power.

It's somewhat like the sport button on our E550 which stiffens the shocks and electronically makes accelerator response quicker.

I don't know which tuner is better. Both seem to have great products, but I lean towards RENNtech because of their research and results.

We all know that Sprint Booster doesn't add power, this is not a point
All I said if I need to choose between Sprint Booster and some 15-20HP tune
I better choose Sprint Booster ,- it feels like you added 20HP and cost much less
The way to really add some HP is to get a SC system ... but this is another story and a big $$$

After getting my 50K service done and two new rear tires, I am now looking at the engine tune. For those that have had the OE Tune done, what is the process? Am I right in thinking this can be done by me or do I need to ship parts?

Thanks in advance...

Jeremy from OE Tuning PM'd me directly with the information I needed - a good response that answered my questions. Good to see that I can perform the tune myself if I choose.

Thanks!

RENNtech all the way
We're talking about Mercedes over here, not some Honda Civic (no offense to Honda Civic). I wouldn't take risk, go with a brand that specializes in Mercedes. Plus, they're a very reputable brand.

Very interesting. If I were getting a tune I would for sure get a before and after dyno test from an independant shop. I would want to know exactly what I got for my tune money.
