2013 E 350 Cabriolet 2600 miles old, with a loud 'ticking' noise when idling. MB tech says it is normal in this car. Although they get many complaints...there is nothing they can do. Anyone else experiencing this noise in a otherwise great car? All comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Yep took it to the dealership and they told me the same thing. It only happens during the initial start up.

Not so in this case. It is always there...at a light with the top down I can hear it. Called MB, requesting a visit at my dealership with a factory rep, you would think I was requesting a meet with the president (even offered to meet them anywhere?). Went thru 3 detailed/passionate conversations and finally got a meet in appoximatly 2weeks. It's really annoying!

It's the direct fuel injection. Noisy as hell. You're not the only one. Ours just seems a bit louder than other brands. Look it up on line on direct fuel injection. You will see that the ticking noise is from that.

So I've been told, however it makes no sense to engineer this noise into a vehicle like this unless you can control it. The noise is very loud and I feel MB should find a 'fix' for it. Below is a link to a short video on the noise it makes.

Wow. That is loud. Sounds like a diesel.
The noise appears to be the hydraulic lifters.
Generally that noise goes away after the engine warms up. Apparently yours did not.
