Front Brake Issue Returns - Caliper Rebuild help?!
All,
Several months ago I replaced the brake rotors and pads on my 2014 E550 Coupe. I then chased what I thought was air in the brake system for months. Ultimately I found a sticking caliper on Passenger front and got it working better somehow. However...last weekend I had the lovely grinding sound from my Driver side front wheel. I just pulled it and have eaten thru the inner brake pad entirely. Outer pad has moderate life remaining. These are the ~$225 set of pads ($270 at MBZ). Needless to say, not ones I want to swap every 6mo! A fresh set will arrive tomorrow, but...how to solve the actual problem?!
Would anyone have good rebuild/repair tips for me? Part numbers also appreciated!? To be most clear, I have the bigger TWO-piston front brakes as seen below
I haven't looked at my brakes closely but I'd assume it just needs some lube so the caliper can move freely. It was the outer pad that was worn out right?
Actually it was the inner pad. I will lube the slider pins again...where do I lube the actual pistons? Does this necessitate removing the rubber surrounds?
In actually it is probably best now to just replace caliper and bracket
If you went that long with the glide pin sticking causing a pad to burn up means lots of heat and can ruin the caliper piston seals and boil ot the glide pin grease and welll... just best to replace thee parts for new.
brake grease which is a high temp never seize type lubricant.
Tends to be copper in color dueto high copper content.
Many brands heck some times new pads will come with is so you will put a little onthe back side where they touch caliper, piston, slides and/or bracket
Replace the calipers - both sides. You have the motor to make the car go very well, on the opposite side you need the brakes to make it stop very well because if it does not then at the least it will need bodywork at worst you will also need some bodywork......brakes are more important than the motor.
Well, I have begrudgingly taken your advice lol. FCP Euro sent me the rear pins/sleeves kit instead of the fronts, another reseller accepted my order then cancelled it due to lack of actual parts. The dealership says they can only get them with the caliper. So, I have $900 worth of new calipers on the way...plus the new hoses and pads. I sure hope my braking is smooth and strong and effortless lol. I had already ordered the Lemforder front LCA kit, so I guess its tear the front end apart weekend! woo hoo
FCP euro is ovepriced now days. They became too popular and started jacking up their price, knowing people on this forum wont check anywhere else but fcp.
less known online dealers are cheaper.

While I do agree at least regarding certain items, my calipers for the ‘14 coupe are the huge ones and their pricing was competitive. Actually though, I got one caliper from an OEM wholesaler/reseller as it was back ordered from Germany.
I’ve certainly learned the hard way that owning a car that was only made in a certain configuration for two years is not wise. I always avoid the first year of a new model, but this one got me in a different way
