Pull ahead 2015 E550C or order 2016
My 2012 E550C lease ends April 30th - MB Canada (Toronto stores) offering me plenty of incentives to pull ahead and take delivery of a 2015 E550C in February,
I'm keen on a 2015 as after searching the forum and major Google surfing seems accurate the V8 will be gone in the 2016 E550C in favor of Bi turbo V6.
I ran across some info that there would be up to 400HP avail in the 2016 Bi turbo V6 - I can't seem to find any more detail on that HP figure. But alas there goes the tractor pulling torque I have gotten used too.
Now here's the kicker, currently I have Black on Black and want the same and would you believe the dealer checked and not a Black on black E550C in the country. A few white ones, grey ones and the dealer has a Cavansite Blue w/ Alpaca Grey interior.
Dealer says I can order a 2015 Black on black for delivery in late May - pretty much as before as per my existing lease . I don't know what the incentives will look like on a new order yet - end of model year production in my favour?
Now I'm thinking at that point in the year maybe I just delay a bit and order a 2016 E550C- of course that's a whole new pricing and incentive ball game.
I find a lease just races by at best and I should just buckle into a 2015 E550C black on black and hold on to all that torque.
But oh wait 2017
Appreciate your thoughts.

I agree. It sounds like you really want the 2015 and would be "settling" for the 2016. Settling for a different color might be easier than accepting 2 less cylinders. Though, I trust that MB will make the bi-turbo V6 very nice. It just sounds like you really want the V8 for now.

Blame the ridiculous CAFE standards the government imposed. In order to meet those fleet-wide numbers going forward that are designed to promote all electric vehicles, all the car companies have to essentially churn out lesser-powered vehicles that are also much lighter and less safe in a collision. At the same time, they also have to convince the public that this is a good thing. Thus V8's being downsized to TT V6's and even some V6's being downsized to 4 cylinders. None of the car companies are allowed to come flat out and say that of course. At least not without incurring the wrath of Uncle Sam.

In 2003, I bought my last V8 in a Ford Explorer
In 2004, I bought my last V8 in a Jaguar XJ
In 2014, I bought my last V8 along with twin turbos in a Mercedes E550 Cabriolet
They are getting pretty rare now. May have to go to a Corvette for my next last V8.

If you don't get it, you'll regret it. Especially if you settle for the '16 E400 and pull up next to someone in a '15 E550. The kick, sound and "oomph" of my '14 E550 cab is beyond compare. Also, the Cavansite Blue is a head turner. It's a gorgeous, elegant car

I already have a c400 with over 400 hp and torque at the fly wheel.. with a piggy back tune that i'm beta testing.
I also have ECU flashed OE tuned E550 coupe.
Both are very strong.. but there is no way I would pick the v6TT over the V8TT stock or tuned.
The c400 is quick and has plenty of mid range punch. Stock PSI was 9lbs.. i'm pushing around 14lbs right now.. and car moves.
But E550 has power down low, mid and high rpm pull with just a simple tune. The sound of the exhaust and smooth power delivery is just plain better than my C400.
If i was to replace my E550 coupe it would be for a newer E550 coupe or E63 RWD or 4Matic.
trust me on this one.. the 3L engine is solid but the v8 is better.
BTW: The C400 coupe is just around the corner.. I would wait for that coupe if you were set on a 3L engine. The interior of new C class is hands down nicer than my E550.

I'd get the '15.
What options does the 2015 at the MB dealer in Toronto have in it? I'm at an MB dealer in Calgary and we are still waiting on our 2015 E550 coupes because the production on the non AMG V8 motor is slowing down.
I'd try to get a night edition pkg......

Ok - 2015 E550C V8 Bi-turbo wins hands down with all of your great comments. Thank you.
I kept thinking how I would kick myself later with a '16 V6 when I would pull up next to an E550C, hearing it's throaty burble and saying to myself - should have, should have, should have.
Luckily, this weekend the winter weather in Toronto provided dry pavement - so I went with my C to my favorite back roads, pressed 'M' , glanced at the tach and hung on. The smile that was stuck on my face after that cleared up any doubts on number of cylinders from then on.
Ok, after some wrangling with the dealer - 2015 E550C - fresh order in place. Obsidian Black Met, Black Nappa Int with dark ash wood trim. Black Fabric Roof Liner. Premium package - just the way I like it.
Oh, tblack21 - the 2015 E550C Cavansite Blue you asked about -Toronto still has it.
Premium Package, Intelligent Drive Package,Black Fabric Roof Liner, Dark Ash Wood Trim
Alpaca Grey interior
I'm not big on light interiors /seats - I seem to get fabric color transfer from dark clothing, suits, jeans etc.
I'll finish off winter in my '12 C and welcome the warmer weather in a '15 C, windows down.

from what i've read, only the sedans e550 and e350 are being replaced with the e400 and e250, respectively. the coupes are still going to have the e550 v8tt, but the e350 coupes are being replaced with the 400 v6tt. it's because there are more people opting for the 550 v8tt engine in a coupe than a sedan. and if people with the sedan get the 550 most of the time they go for the amg e63. that's here, in the u.s.
well, that's what i read anyways...

The blogs I scan seem to all over the place as far 2016 E Class engine specs - some of the blogs I even think are 'plants' to muddy the information waters. The most consistent info I have read that the V8 TT will be dropped from the E coupe and if one wants a V8 then it's an E63.
I'm also reading that inline TT sixes will debut in the E Class in 2016 - that's a throwback to the 90's for MB
Guess. we'll see.

In order to keep tooling costs low car manufacturers are modularizing. Meaning that if you are now going back to more 4 cylinders and less 8 cylinders, a straight 4 cyl and a straight 6 cyl can be made on the same lines and the variable is 2 cylinders. A V6 and V8 can do the same thing again the variable is 2 cyl. But a straight 4 and V6 would not modularize well. That's why straight six are coming back.
