Water Sloshing Around in Sills

My 350 convertible has water sloshing around in the sills noticeable when I brake at slowish speed. Has anyone else had this problem?

I located a plastic screw in plug at the rear jacking point, unscrewed that and loads of water came pouring out so at least the sills are empty now.

BUT: where is the water getting into the sills from?

Please anyone, can you help as I don't want my car's sills rotting out from the inside.

Thanks
Roy

This is very common on the convertible, had it myself, there is very little you can do about it other than drain, technically they are supposed to self drain. the water is not inside the car it is an area within the inner and outer frame of the car. The water enters down the rear windows which are not designed to be water tight hence the drains.

Why bother putting thr plugs back in?

To remove the plugs I had to pry out with a pointed metal tool as screwdrivers didn't seem to work. You have to pull and pry out while trying to turn the plug with a short and wide screwdriver in the slot. Eventually it will come out a little then you can pull on it with your fingers while turning the plug and trying not to press too hard in case you push it back in. I got three out undamaged but the forth one's slot was too beaten up to use.

My question is why bother to put them back in? What harm is there in leaviing them out so the sills can not only drain immediately water enters, but air out too?

Personally I wouldn't put them back...I have removed them from my previous car (VW TOUAREG ) and left them out.

I'm sure others wouldn't approve!
Maybe a risk of salt from roads entering and causing corrosion? ?

Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for letting me know. Yes, you might be right about the salt etc. But on the other hand if it's raining that would get washed out I expect through the open drain holes!. Yes, gonner leave mine out I think.

I did this a few weeks back and drained quite a lot of water out. I am going to drill a hole in the plugs and then cover in mesh , maybe some ladies stockings and then reinstall them.
