I actually know someone who was in a pretty bad accident in her E400 coupe recently. She was injured in the accident but as far as I know there were no injuries as a result of the airbag deploying.

Plus, I haven't been in an accident in the last twenty five years so I'm not overly worried about it.

I don't know why it bothers some people so much that I don't march down to my Mercedes dealer right now and demand a loaner car until they replace the airbag inflators.

Simply because our opinion does not match theirs. What they are looking for is not necessary a solution or workaround to the problem, since there are no replacement parts available for the air bags, but rather a forum to complain about how bad Mercedes is for not providing a free loaner vehicle on a long-term basis. So from my perspective, I just don't bother with this thread anymore.

No one cares about what you do or do not do. Some of us care for our safety and don't wish to put our face and lives as risk. Maybe we care more about our lives or face than you, or maybe we're being irrational. But at least folks deserve to know the risk and what is being done (or not done) about it.

When it comes to life or death, its best to err on the side of caution. Statements that I havent had an accident in 25 years are laughable and truly why the previous darwinism comment is so ironic. Thanks for the laugh enjoy the drive and may no dangers cross your path. Ill cross my fingers for you (or maybe I wont).

That's the thing too. This problem is so widespread that there is no way for ANY manufacturer to cope with the problem as those people recommend. What would Mercedes give me as a loaner? Another car with a Takata airbag inflator?

By the way, I checked with Mercedes and my car is not subject to the recall. I also checked on the Takata website, they have a vin lookup tool where you input your vin and it will tell you if your vehicle is affected. Mine didn't come up as being affected despite my car being on some of the affected vehicle lists I've seen online.

Of course, it may be added at some point in the future but I'm not going to worry about it. What am I going to do trade in a car I just bought because of a problem that may or may not exist?

Yeah, I'm done with this thread too.

Yours is not affected then lucky you. Don't have the audacity to try and tell us who are affected what we should or should not do or desire. If you want to drive with faulty bags, Ill be more than happy to send you mine. Until then, you can't possibly place yourself in the shoes of those of us affected or at risk. Good riddance.

I never told anyone what to do. Just what I would do and have done.

Cheers.

they are reportedly still building vehicles with the bad bags, so you're probably one of them. folks just now got word on their passenger airbags. its insane.

Seems to me there are a few too many upset people getting personal In this thread.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I just got a letter about this for my 2012 e550 cab. I'm wondering 1) can the airbags be disabled, and 2) could I even sell this thing if I wanted to (due to the pending recall). I love the car, but I'm not so comfortable driving it now. My 1980 Scout is getting a lot more use these days.
